THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
Failure is part of being human. Regardless of how hard we try or how highly qualified we are, we are bound to make mistakes and fall short of perfect. God’s ways however are higher than our ways.
Jesus’ love has not and never will fail me.
Having professed to being a Christian for over twenty years now, I can see God’s love at work in every season of my life.
When I first became a Christian, I was a sensitive boy who was often picked on at school because I reacted to being teased. There were numerous times at the start of secondary school that I would cry because I felt picked on by peers. I wouldn’t go so far to say that I was bullied but I did make myself an easy target by getting easily worked up by my sensitivities. When I started listening to worship music at home, there were many tears. God ministered to me through my Matt Redman albums and Delirious? CDs. He was faithfully loving me through these songs.
When I was seventeen I spend the best part of a month in hospital due to deep vein thrombosis (blood clot). My arm has swollen up due to the main vein in my arm becoming occluded and immediate treatment and subsequent surgery was needed to ensure I didn’t experience serious complications with my arm or drop dead. God was with me through the boredom of being in hospital. He used this time to draw me closer to members of my family and affirmed me that I wasn’t destined to do a town-planning degree and that He had plans for me in the field of music. Through operations and inconveniences, He was faithfully loving me.
When I felt the rug pulled from beneath my feet with an engagement break-up, friendships torn apart and my income drastically reduced; He lovingly reassured me that He’s in control and that His plan and timing are perfect. When we met seemingly immovable obstacles trying for a baby, when the bank account went below rock-bottom and even when there was an untimely death in our family I have never had reason to doubt that He would pull us through.
In every season, there is always enough of God’s enduring love.
